Leander 2025 is a success! Let’s work together and make Leander 2050 a reality.

As your Mayor in 2003, our council developed and implemented our goal oriented, major planning effort. We called it “Leander 2025.” We started this aggressive movement to open our city for positive growth and future development. We wanted to kickstart higher standards for our future as a leader in the region. Below are the objectives that we considered important for Quality of Life in Leander:

Develop Local Healthcare/Hospitals (Now we have Scott & White, St. David’s)
Court Higher Education (Austin Community College)
Easier Access to Leander from Austin (183A)
Improve Mass Transit (Cap Metro Rail)
50-year reliable water source (Contracted with Lake Travis)(BCRUA)
Leander Transit Oriented Development effort ($1 Billion in additional value created)
Woo Top-Tier Anchor Retail (Lowes, Kohls, HEB, Randall’s, etc.)
Plan for Growth (New zoning ordinance)
Support Police (New Police Department)
Support Firefighters (6 new fire stations commissioned)
Develop park and community spaces (Lakewood, Devine, and Ben Brook Parks developed, 2,400 acres of parkland surrounding the city)
Transform Finances (Near “junk bond” rating jumped to AA+)
Support Learning (New Library)
Executive Housing
Improve Roadways (Numerous roads and lights upgraded)
Open for and to small business (Created an exciting atmosphere and momentum)

Make Leander an “Open for Business” City, promote a robust commercial tax base, and create enthusiasm for doing business here
Streamline development process for small business
Continue to develop medical facilities & expand existing ones
Make Leander friendly for AI, NANO and 3D printing technology companies
Make Leander a “Quality of Life” City with more parks/open space/sports facilities/ recreation center.
Expand Public Safety facilities and Municipal facilities
Improve and safeguard water infrastructure and explore innovative water re-use and conservation technologies city wide
Transportation improvements and infrastructure expansion
Reengage with our economic development partners with the city of Austin and Williamson and Travis Counties
